New Orleans is the birthplace to many famous musicians and rock groups and everyday new talent is coming out of the area. If you get a chance to visit and spend some time in the local clubs and restaurants you might be listening to a future star. The roster of well known singers and musicians is very long and this regent of the country can boast that they all had their start in New Orleans.

Every one loves Louis Armstrong and he has been amazing audiences for years. Louis carried the nickname of Satchmo for years and he was well known and loved by people all over. Born in New Orleans around the turn of the century, his style of jazz changed the world and today his influence can still be felt. When he blew into that old trumpet, people stopped and listened because he was one of the bests the modern world has known. His voice was also popular and today most people can still recognize him as soon as they hear one of his songs. As he ended his career during the sixties, he was widely known for changing music in general and of course no one can ever think about Louis with remembering his New Orleans roots. They seem to go together.

New Orleans has a lot to contribute, from restaurants, to sight seeing, to entertainment, and not to mention some great singers. This year American Idol included 3 of the best american idol singers, all of which happened to be from the New Orleans area. Though these 3 singers did not end up winning the competition, they did win a place in America’s heart.

Jovany Barreto was a 23 year old Cuban singer who definitely left an impression on American Idol judge, Jennifer Lopez. Before auditioning and making it on American Idol, Jovany was a student at LSU, Louisiana State University.

Lauren Turner was a 24 year old whose audition in New Orleans left a lasting impression on the judges. Her voice was stated as being “undeniable”. Before making it on American Idol, Lauren worked as a maid.

Jordan Dorsey is a 21 year old piano teacher who got a place in American Idol by singing “Over the Rainbow” during his audition.

Hopefully we will see these talented New Orleans singers again in the future. With voices so big, and personalities to match, there is no doubt that they will be successful if they decide to continue pursuing their music career.

New Orleans is a lively mlange of diverse people, customs, and cultures. From the French Quarter to the historic Faubourg Treme, the streets of New Orleans pulse with the sounds of Creole and jazz, and are filled with the hot, spicy aromas of Cajun cuisine. The cities historic, French inspired architecture and world famous festivals make the Crescent City a much-loved destination.

Being a diverse melting pot, New Orleans has been the birthplace of many historic and intriguing people. It has been an epicenter for writers and artists. William Faulkner, considered one of the greatest writers in American history, was from New Orleans. Truman Capote, most famous for his novel “In Cold Blood, also called New Orleans home. The best selling crime novelist Elmore Leonard lives there as well. Two of the most famous people from New Orleans are Anne Rice and Tennessee Williams. Anne Rice continues to live in the French Quarter, and has used New Orleans as the backdrop for her many popular vampire stories. Tennessee Williams is considered to be one of the most influential playwrights in America, as “The Glass Menagerie” and “A Streetcar Named Desire” are still read in school, and staged throughout the U.S.

Turn on your www.directstartv.com satellite and keep an eye out for some of the Big Easy’s most famous female actresses…
Ellen Degeneres: Comedy’s golden lady was born and bred her in LA and she doesn’t take it lightly. You won’t hear much of a Cajun drawl from Ellen but she knows how to cook with the best of them.
Patricia Clarkson: Yeah, we always assumed she was from New York, too. Raymond’s wife is actually a native New Orleansean and she’s got the fiery attitude you’d expect even if she has since moved to Hollywood.
Reese Witherspoon: You assumed she was southern all along but did you know she grew up just down the street from the French Quarter? It doesn’t get much more a-list than Mrs. Witherspoon and her family still lives right here in town. Imagine that!
Who knew N.O. was such a great place for star sightings?!

Exactly who would make the list of the Top 10 New Orleanian Entertainers depends on whose opinion is sought. Among the top musicians is Wynton Marsalis. This 50 year old musical giant comes from a family of jazz musicians. Marsalis is not only an outstanding trumpet artist but has served as a band director and musical educator. Marsalis helped establish Frederick P. Rose Hall, especially designed for jazz performance.

Another great entertainer is hip hop artist, Arwood Johnson, better known as Magic or Mr 9th Ward. The full explanation can be found at http://blog.wholefoodsmarket.com/2011/05/jazz-to-tell-your-story/ Magic currently raps with Roy Jones, Jr. and Body Head Bangerz. To say exactly which field of entertainment Terri Foxx belongs to would be difficult since she sometimes incorporates acting and modeling talents as well as music at various casinos, clubs and cabarets.

Perhaps one of the most well known New Orleanian entertainers of all time is Louis Armstrong, better known as Louis or Satchmo. Long remembered for his husky singing voice, this outstanding entertainer pioneered the art of solo performance as a scat singer famous for his ability to use sounds and syllables rather than words as he sang. Armstrong, who died in 1971, was one of the greatest trumpeters of all time.

One thing about Anne Rice novels is that they are all full of life. In the late 1970s, Rice made a decision that will forever shape the tone in which gothic novels are read, as well as written. The life changing of novels came when Rice decided to turn her brand of gothic novels like Interview with the Vampire into a brand that captured both the past and actual events like the Sophia Lee’s The Recess.

Although Rice’s novels did not include actual historicism, they did evoke different periods of time and settings for all of the gothic protagonists that traveled globally. By Anne’s historical-gothic novels easily moving witches and vampires from past to present, this opened the door for her and others to drive the tone of novels where they have never gone. In many of Anne’s adaptations of gothic conventions, she creatively humanizes her gothic characters to form villian-heros that appeared to live within a social context.

Rice’s novels are also built around a journey towards awareness and renewal through destruction. In addition to that, as the innovative historical-gothic novels continue, the gothic characters that are used are geared towards learning how to live and survive within an existential reality.
